The Organ Transplant Trust (OTT) at PGIMER was established in 2008 to promote organ donation after death and facilitate deceased donor transplantation at PGI Chandigarh. OTT supports various initiatives to raise awareness about deceased organ donation, provides assistance to donor families and transplant recipients, and organizes scientific meetings to advance progress in this field. Among its notable activities is the organization of Transplant Games, which were successfully held in 2014, 2016, 2018, and 2020. Additionally, OTT has played a significant role in fostering discussions on pancreas transplantation, culminating in the establishment of a successful pancreas transplant program at PGI. The trust also collaborates with other NGOs and ROTTO to spread awareness about organ donation.

The Government of India has taken a significant step by launching the National Organ and Tissue Transplant Programme (NOTP) under the Directorate General of Health Services, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare. To streamline organ and tissue transplantation, NOTTO, the apex body, was set up at Safdarjung Hospital, New Delhi. It coordinates with five ROTTOs linked to state medical colleges, promoting organ donation, maintaining registries, monitoring transplantation, and ensuring effective organ distribution.
PGIMER Chandigarh was designated as ROTTO for the Northern Region in November 2015 and became fully operational in March 2016. It coordinates with Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, J&K, Ladakh, and Chandigarh, handling regional registries, monitoring transplants, and raising awareness. PGIMER has earned multiple honors, including Best ROTTO Awards (2018, 2023) and Best Hospital Awards (2016–2023), for its excellence in deceased organ donation.

ORGAN India is a not-for-profit initiative launched in 2013 by the Parashar Foundation to promote organ donation in India. It aims to raise awareness about the critical need for organ transplants and bridge the gap between organ donors and recipients. Through campaigns, workshops, and partnerships with hospitals, medical institutions, and the government, ORGAN India educates the public about the life-saving impact of organ donation. Since 2021, ORGAN India is the official member organization from India at the World Transplant Games Federation and are the Team Managers for Team India at the World Transplant Games.
